if you could make a XP explorer like theme, that would be great.
i don't really need a moz looking like ie, but that skin seems somewhat faster than others :-)

I'm trying to download and install it, and it stays in "Download" mode for quite some time with no progress, then quickly goes to success... it never appears in my list of themes....

Greg: I think you're trying to install it system-wide without root privileges. Try to install it launching mozilla as root.

Xan, I've got a somewhat different problem than Greg: I'm installing the skins as root (I started Mozilla from root and chose one of my profiles). However, the skin always installes into the current profile. How do I do a system wide install of a theme, so that the jar package gets installed into /usr/local/mozilla/chrome instead of /root/.mozilla/user/??????.slt/chrome ?

This is one of the best mozilla themes out there! This alone should help 'convince' loads of people to use Mozilla - they probably won't realize they're not using IE! Excellent job!

Small bug with the theme when using RC3. If you go to Proxy's, the radio buttons are there but you can't see the text next to the radio buttons.
This is under Win2000

I have the same problem with the radio button text not showing up. This is a problem with other themes too.
I run RC3 on WinXP.
- [8] Submitted by: majuric on Sunday May 26th 2002

Using RC3, there's also a bug with the Sidebar - the captions (eg. "Bookmarks", "Search", etc.) disappear. I guess this might be related to the radio button text bug?
P.S.: This is on Windows 2000. P.P.S: Wonderful theme! Just what I need for a wider deployment of Mozilla in our otherwise IE-centric organization (once the users get accustomed to one UI, there's no way to force them into using another).

hehehehe, don't think I would ever use this because I wouldn't want Mozilla looking anything like IE... but fun nonetheless. Thinking of starting a theme myself, just joined the Themes mailing list. Cheers :)

neon: Mozilla always loads the whole skin into memory. Since IE skin is one of the smaller skins, Moz uses less RAM and appears faster. Am working on an XP skin, but since I don't have XP, I am just relying on screenshots people gave me. :)
Simon/Jamie/majuric: Yes, I am aware of this bug but I don't know how to fix it yet. I am having difficulty keeping up with the changes they make with Moz. Well, the description did say that the theme was made for *RC2*. :)
mgkimsal: Thanks. :)

Nice work. The theme looks great! I may use it for my own Lite *and weird - ie. bash scriptable* C/GTK Browser (Gem) which is in planning/experimental stage now. =)
I just tried Win32 Mozilla for the first time an hour ago! Its not my computer so I can use this theme to hide the fact that I installed another program, hehe, j/k.

*** Bugs Fixed! ***
As of June 1, 2002, the following bugs have been fixed: 1) Some text do not show up under RC3 (but RC2 is ok) 2) Mousing over chatzilla icon changes it to composer icon. 3) Font size too small in Linux. 4) Cannot open a second mail window. (For those with a very old copy of IE skin)
If you experience any of these problems, just download a new copy. The latest stable version can now be found here in Mozdev, and the development version can be found in http://mozillako.hypermart.net
Thanks and Good Day!

Real nice theme, even though I hate the Windows version of Internet Explorer itself, this theme is very nearly enough to fool users of Microsoft's lame browser into thinking they really are using IE. Assuming of course they're not running WinXP. All we need to see now is an XP style version of this theme with XP style icons and buttons. Oh yeah, I think it'd be good to see the newly added IE logo animated like the real thing, but with the Moz logo sneakily merged into it in some way.

I am loving this theme, not because I really want to fool anybody into thinking that I am running IE, but because it look GREAT and it integrates with the rest of my windows 2000 desktop. Thanks, nice work!
Also, have you considered creating a slightly different theme with the same look but no free advertisements for microsoft? All it would take is a moz-friendly default favicon (the mozdev eye or the blue gecko), a moz throbber, and a moz icon in the component bar.
I don't have the expertise to do it myself so all can say is pretty please.

Bamm: You won't have to do anything to make ieskin support 0.4, because I added the support myself. Unfortunately, I've found that there are some serious issues with supporting third-party themes. To the users of 0.4, this will show up as blank lines in the View > Apply Theme menu, for all the themes that 0.4 supports, and the user don't have. So I'm recommending to wait and not download Home Button until I've found a fix. I'm currently waiting for suggestions from the XPInstall mailing list/newsgroup, where I have posted a question and explained the issues.

themes like this one that use system widgets don't look right in xp. its very minimal, i know, but i'm a perfectionist and it stops me from using these themes. its hard to explain so i'll just use pictures:
Bad: http://www.theinternet.info/images/theme-bad.gif Good: http://www.theinternet.info/images/theme-good.gif
funny thing about it is that the 'good' theme here is lopburi 'flat' and under other windows versions it is completely flat with no buttons. and yet in xp it uses buttons that are *perfect* unlike these other system-widget themes. hmm...

Thanks!

Hosh, I don't really know about the legalities of this, I just made it coz I think it was fun. I wished you hadn't brought it up though, someone there might be reading this page. :)
The throbber isn't moving because it is just an image. I discovered you can't move things around in skins, in this case the throbber, which in Mozilla is in the main toolbar, cannot be moved to the menu bar, which is where it is in IE.
It's the same reason why skins can't move the Home button from the personal toolbar to the main toolbar.
I heard it is possible to add a new throbber in another place using an XBL binding, but I don't know how. If someone could teach me I'd be grateful.
Bus since the whole point of this skin is just for fun, it's not really so much a big deal for me. :)
Have a nice day.

Let us know if anyone takes you up on the XBL binding stuff. I was working on a hybrid IE/Mozilla skin a few months ago and wanted to make the location box it own toolbar similar to Netscape 4.x and IE but I could not figure out how to do it. I think I could do it with XBL but i'm not sure how.
- [59] Submitted by: Bamm on Saturday July 27th 2002
-
Ethan: I don't think that's possible, since a binding on a skin cannot have JavaScript, which is needed to make the URL bar work.
In my case all I need to make a throbber is the busy="true" property. I do not require that clicking on it will take you to a page (needs js) since the real IE does not act that way.
Johannes once told me he succeeded in adding a Home button to Pinball via xbl, but clicking on it didn't work so he gave up. It looks like Mozilla ignores any .js files found in skins.

***** NEW VERSION *****
July 27, 2002
I'm glad to announce a new version of IE Skin.
This new version of Internet Explorer skin finally gives the user a choice between 3 looks:
1) Show text labels (default) 2) No text labels 3) Selective text on right
This makes IE Skin the first skin to have several subskins packed into one (as opposed to creating several new skins with only minor variations between them). For details, see
IE Skin Tips and Tricks http://mozillako.hypermart.net/ieskin/
The new version also adds support for 3rd Hand's Home Button add-on and the New Tab button.
Please get the latest version at
IE Skin Homepage http://mozillako.hypermart.net/ieskin/
OR
DeskMod http://www.deskmod.com/core.mod?show=showskin&skin_id=13436
I have submitted the new skin to mozdev so I expect this page to show the new skin soon. In the meantime, I suggest that you get IE Skin from either of the two sites posted above.
Best Regards, Bamm

Other than this, the ie skin and the home button work great together.

I've found a workaround in XP on how to make the MSIE theme look like 9x, Me, NT4, and 2000. To do that:
1. Go to the Control Panel. 2. Click Display ans then the Appearance Tab. 3. Under Windows & Buttons, Choose Windows Classic. 4. Under Color Scheme, choose ether Windows Classic (the 9x/Me/NT4 look) or Windows Standard (the 2000 look.) 5. Click Apply and OK and let XP switch. 6. Open up Moz and see the MSIE skin in its glory!

You can get rid of IE almost completely by running IEradicator. It deletes all of IE (everything under c:program filesinternet explorer and a load of dlls) except for the Windows Update facility. It has, along with Mozilla, given me my Desktop back after a load of dodgy ActiveX components tried to take it over by getting rid of my own shortcuts and setting home pages without me telling them to.
