Absolutely beautiful, lurvely. Only one little niggle I noticed: there's no icon for ChatZilla yet. Apart from that, excellent theme, well done. I'm probably using it now if I don't find anything better...

Would You please contact Reidar Djupvik from: http://home.no.net/trihand/mozilla/home/

Thanx in advance.

I have one complaint about the button though, it should be to the left of stop - I'm clicking it by mistake at the moment even if IE (not my regular browser) puts it thus: back | fwd | stop | reload | home

Could you please skin toolsbars and the tabbar? They retain the old modern skin and it looks very out of place.

One thing I noticed though, the whole screen seems to shift up one pixel when changing from one tab to multiple tabs.

Is this intermittant ? Or permanent ? Can you attach a screenshot to the tracker bug 1660

Thanks

Not sure a screen shot is gonna help much, but here's some easy steps to reproduce.

Make these changes on the Tabbed Browsing settings page: Uncheck "Hide the bar when only one page is open" Check "Load links in the background" Check "Middle-click or Control-click of links..." Save the settings

With only a single page (one tab) open in the browser, middle click on a link.

The link should open in a new tab, but in the background, and the current page should shift up a pixel or so.

This only happens when the number of tabs changes from 1 to >1.

It's really not a big issue, and it's only even noticible when loading links in new tabs in the background.

Best looking skin for Mozzila. Excellent job, except for one thing:

The Bookmarks folder and bookmark link icons look too much alike to do any good. You practically have to read the whole description to see if it's a folder or a link. Other skins suffer from the same usability flaw (like the "modern" theme) but I only take the effort of commenting on your skin because it's the best :)

If you could make it easier for us to distinguish between the two icons it would be much appreciated. If I may make a suggestion. You could think of color differences (1 all gray, other gray yellow) or more distinctive shapes (1 all angular, other round).

Good luck and thanks in advance.

I don't have a problem at 1024x768, and I don't plan to change them given they were part of Kent's 20020317 version of Orbit3, upon which this was based / extended

At what screen size is it difficult to determine the difference ?

Really nice skin, especially the spinner!

Two wishes: 1. How about a small version, rendering the navigation toolbar lower (i.e. smaller icons/buttons)? 2. Finish up the colouring (toolbars and menus have different colour in version 1.0rc3 0.0.4)...

Lovely work so far, though!!!

[49] Submitted by: xBryan on Monday June 24th 2002

The coolest theme by far, even in its unfinished state.

[50] Submitted by: Thursday on Monday June 24th 2002

Chris,

Please, take out the little shark logo in the title bar. I can understand your reasoning for wanting your logo somewhere in the skin, but it's very obnoxious in it's current location. It completely changes the entire look and feel of the skin, and not for the better. Without it, Orbit is a very clean, professional skin. Why ruin that?

If you are going to leave the logo in, at least make it less obtrusive. Make it a faint shadow, or stick it in the splash screen or something. Anything would be better than the way it is currently.

[51] Submitted by: Chris Neale on Monday June 24th 2002

It could definitely be worse, were it not for the xul borrowed from American, windows would happily place it behind the menubar buttons; it appears Mozilla(windows) doesn't understand background-position: right;

Given that all the rest of theme is either Kent Thuresson's work (or influenced by it), it had to be somewhere;

for instance *nix doesn't "splash" unless told to; MacOS whatever doesn't display the menubar *at all*

mail me, and I can give you a userChrome.css entry to nuke it, if you are really upset by it

This seems to do the trick:

Put this in your .../chrome/userChrome.css file:

@namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul");

.toolbar-orbit-holder > .toolbar-orbit-stack > .toolbar-orbit-box > .toolbar-orbit-right {

background-image: none !important;

[55] Submitted by: Sharc Hater on Wednesday June 26th 2002

Nuts.

That should be:

@namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul");

menubar > .toolbar-orbit-holder > .toolbar-orbit-stack > .toolbar-orbit-box > .toolbar-orbit-right {

Great theme, clean, stylish...

My only slight quibble is that because its a fairly pale theme, on white web pages it can look a little anaemic and its sometimes hard to see the edges of the tool bars. Maybe a little more contrast?

This is being ultra picky - its a great theme!!

First, i should say that Orbit is the best theme i have ever seen for mozilla-use. I really appreciate it. Second, i have got some suggestions or, say, wish. The radio button and check box in this theme are the SAME. So, it is impossible to distinguish them unless you click on it and find by yourself. So i think if the checkbox be a square one or something like that(maybe Orbit means everything is round and not rectangluar..., i don't know). Many thanks.

[74] Submitted by: Chris Neale on Tuesday July 2nd 2002

Hi Chris, I really like this theme but I had a problem with the location of your signature. It was big and visually distracting over the throbber. So I had to remove it. The fish that is. It just didn't belong. Out of respect I won't give instructions on how to do it but please reconsider the size/location in future updates. My kudos to everyone who contributed to the theme for the good work.

This is a wonderful skin, thank you!

I have two comments, and maybe I have missed earlier discussion on one or both.

1) how about a rotating refresh icon, with the arrows spinning in a circle? This might free up the right refresh icon for something else.

2) the new Mozilla build 70203 has a new tab open under the Home Icon, this is handy in the other themes.

Thanks again for your work on this.

I absolutely love this theme.

few gripes: It's too big. IE, could you pretty please do a 'mini' version with icons (BACK FORWARD REFRESH etc.) 50 - 75% of their current size? (Why? Because on 1024x768 rez it takes up too much space now, everyone doesn't have the luxury for gigantic monitors / resolutions)

Reduce the Throbber to a more decent size ( -50% ) and make it be something else than BLACK after page has been completed / loading page.

About the signature, I wouldn't realy mind it, but currently it doesn't display at all, until I move one Mozilla window over another. At that point it looks like it tries to draw the signature on the toolbar every time the moving window's position is refreshed. The result is a black/gray blur on the toolbar.

I'm using mozilla 1.0 on win2k.

Quinn: it seems to be a Windows anomaly, wherever I put it, it doesn't display "correctly"; whereas under Linux (where I usually am), and other *nixs it's fine

I'll have to keep fighting with it

cdn

[107] Submitted by: Chris Neale on Friday July 12th 2002

Hatter: that's already skinned from the menubar, without knowing what that toolbar is by id, it would be difficult to definitively skin it. The problem comes from Kent's blue gradient which gets progressively lighter from the menubar, through the navbar, to the personal bar

If you "turn off" the bar depicted and install the googlebar, you'll see it can be done by id;

the alternative is to make the global condition like that, and hope that the current menubar, navbar, personal bar do as they do now

OK, this is going to be hard to describe, and maybe it's just my eyes.

Watch the static tail of the throbber (at 12 o'clock) when the bright portion is moving through the last 1/8 of a rotation. Is it just me or does the static tail shimmer by a pixel back and forth?

I tried checking this out by looking at the throbber frames, but I don't have a graphics editor that understands MNG.

[114] Submitted by: Chris Neale on Wednesday July 24th 2002

There's a way involving userChrome.css that can be 'messy';

.bookmark-item[container="true"], treechildren:-moz-tree-image(Name, container) { /*uncomment below to make background blue*/ /* background-color: blue;*/

border: 1px dotted; }

messy, as in, it makes personal bar bookmark folders blue (if specified) as well

I've been waiting for this to be fixed since .4.5, but i'm using .5.2 and it isn't fixed yet.

The backgrounds in the text labels are darker than the normal background (they're the same color as in the modern theme). You can see this in the preferences menu -- it's all over the place.

Now since no one complained about this before, I'm thinking maybe it's something to do with my setup. I'm using moz 1.1, but this happened with 1.0 as well... Anyway, here's a screenshot: http://clientes.netvisao.pt/mdaconce/orbit.png

Great theme, no thanks for all the fish.

Now I have nothing against fish, but I have the 0.5.3 version of the theme running on NT 4.0, and the fish randomly appears and disappears! Is that a bug or a feature?

In any case, the theme rocks and I'm still using it anyways. :) Keep up the good work!

[125] Submitted by: Chris Neale on Wednesday July 31st 2002

bug and/or feature

try a 1.1b build or trunk nightly, 98se had it more consistent (last time I looked with 1.1b - generally roll my own under Linux)

Nice job.

A request: Popup-s which have decisions to be made (e.g. wizard, "clicked on link what to I do" (for, e.g. a word document)) don't work. In particular, they don't display the choices. For example, in the "add new account" wizard under mail & news prefs, the first screen asks what sort of account you wan to add. No options are displayed, so the "next" button won't do anything (as it doesn't know what to do. Similar for the "you clicked on a format I don't know about".

Newer or previous version that's mo bettah? I'm running with 1.0.0.0.5.2 &/or 1.0.0.0.4.5 -- both behave in a similar fashion w.r.t. this.

Problem apparently fixed in 1.0.0.5.3 -- downloaded it from "that other place" (deskmod) & problem went away.

Apologies for now researching further...

Great theme! I hope someone someone at ximian sees your work and hires you on to clean up the gnome's icons. Really clean and creative. The "pulse" icon (or whatever it's called, the one all the way on the right) is excellent. Thanks for putting this together.

I also add my request for a xmms skin and maybe a Naulitus theme while you're at it ... (just kidding).

Thanks again and great job, Brian

[136] Submitted by: Chris Neale on Monday August 5th 2002

It's not strictly *my* theme, I picked it up, initially because I wanted it, from what Kent Thuresson had done up to March 2002, and filled in the pieces, some from Orbit from the rime of N6, and others things as needed

This sugestions don't change my mind: This is the perfect Mozilla theme!!!

Hmm. I think it causes problems with the latest nighties: You can't open MailNews.

Symptom: Mozilla doesn't open MailNews window. After quitting Mozilla the taskmanager shows a running mozilla.exe in the background. You have to kill it before you can restart. All on W2K.

[149] Submitted by: Chris Neale on Friday August 23rd 2002

get the latest from http://deskmod.com/?show=showskin&skin_id=12603

it's actually the nightlies causing theme problems ...

Well, the one at deskmod is Orbit Retro... This one is "normal" Orbit which i like much more, because it's using less screen estate...

Unfortunately, the 0.5 version at http://morbit.cdn.gs won't work either.

Can i "backport" sth. from Orbit Retro?

Very nice, sleek, modern and fast ! Good thing : I could add a home button. Bad thing : it's ugly My humble advice : Just make the little house inside the button black, to perfectly match the other buttons.

[153] Submitted by: Legolas_21 on Sunday August 25th 2002

Nice and it fit the browser well. I hope to find more nice themes like this one.

[154] Submitted by: schnapps on Monday August 26th 2002

Just installed Orbit 3m, but right now it's choosing between the inconvenient absence of a status bar

or:

being confronted with a STUPID fish that pops up on it !

(at least the home-button is less disturbingly ugly, but still: I might turn the throbber into my home button)

[155] Submitted by: schnapps on Monday August 26th 2002

Nah, sorry....I've decided to change to GrayModern : the fish ruins it all.

sharc haters (and everyone else) could try Orbit 3_1 0.0.6.2 from deskmod.com, no visible sharcs [ anywhere : ( ]

on the plus side there are 'Orbit 3m'-style smaller buttons and "pinball"-esque smallest icons options available

can i assume that the addition of a 'new tab' button in mozilla 1.1 has messed up themes somehow? i get the button in the standard themes but not in orbit. any plans for a minor update? i love orbit, going back to modern is just annoying!

Chris,

I - and a lot of people I talked to - really appreciate your Orbit skin. What we miss is support for the enigmail plugin (http://enigmail.mozdev.org/), which uses several buttons. It is a plugin to allow users to integrate PGP / GPG (cryptographic features) into mozilla mail.

The current version from themes.mozdev.org btw also works fine with mozilla 1.1, except for that the 'open new tab' button vanishes.

Good job, please feel encouraged to go on!

Thanks

Markus

[171] Submitted by: Markus on Wednesday September 11th 2002

Hu! I just found the orbit-m theme on your page at http://orbit-m.cdn.gs/ and find it even better than the orbit theme I already knew. So, if I may modify my above request: Can you please make enigmail buttons for orbit-m?

And btw, the 'open new tab' button now works pretty fine!

Thanks

Markus

[172] Submitted by: Chris Neale on Wednesday September 11th 2002

Markus: There should already be enigmail icons in all Orbit variants, it's just that the most recent versions are elsewhere

Friendly but efficient look. It may be hard to find an animated logo which is easier to read.

[185] Submitted by: AL on Wednesday October 9th 2002

Best one I've seen. Efficient and not too flashy. One gripe: There is no difference between links and folders in the bookmark list, making them hard to tell apart.
