Nice design, but:
(Talking here is someone of productivity)
Isn't anybody capable to write a theme that is READABLE ???????
The themes I have seen until now are childish or very sentimental like this here!!!!!!
I want to read just normal text and nothing else and this very compact, please. Should be very simple, no?
If someone can embed this in a good design like this here oder Orbit, O.K. (and without taking again too much space, please!!!!)
The only one that is small is Little Mozilla and this is unreadable like the others: I do not want to have to learn again and again new symbols, this takes TOO much time!
Seems as if people here have too much time!Werner Gorzalka werner@gorzalka.de

Hi,
I use the new modern theme for 1.2beta but I am using it in 1.3 alpha and It works perfect if you do use mail or newsgroups or the address book only the navigator and composer works . Witch works for me because I have a sceond e-mail program in my computer I do not recommend it though If you want to take that risk of not being able to use mail and newsgroups and the address book then go ahead and feel free to download this theme. - [38] Submitted by: Bill on Sunday November 17th 2002

I like this theme a lot. Can't use address book, though. URL,s are hard to read. Maybe an update will help.

Installed version 2.0 to Netscape v7.0. Have run into one problem. When I use a search engine, the "My Sidebar" tab reverts to the "Search Tab". Normally, search results would be summarized in this tab panel. After installing skin v2.0, the search panel displays the message "This tab not available right now" and I get a download message box popping up which wants to download a file called "search-panel.xul". I've downloaded that file, but don't know where to place it. Can anyone help? Presumably the install of v2.0 skin blew that file away???? Thanks.

Thank goodness someone made a theme that isn't based on the color blue! Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of blue and all that, but I use a brown/brass/black look for my desktop that I find ultimately pleasing, and this theme just fits in perfectly.

Life is full of mysteries...
I'm currently using Negative Modern under Moz 1.3 final. It works great except that I have to clear the "JunkMail" button from the Toolbar in order to avoid the multiple lines with buttons inside Messenger. That's it! It works great besides that.
Hopefully it will be easy for RJ to fix this when he/she comes back to this theme. Someday right?
Another mystery is, why isn't there a form to post messages on this page? I had to create my own! does it mean that Mozdev closed this page because RJ decided no to waste any more time with this great skin?
In any case, thanks RJ for the best skin around.
- [68] Submitted by: Chichizilla on Saturday March 22nd 2003
-
Thank you to the anonymous poster for the 2.02 version. Messenger now works great even with the 'JunkMail' button showing.
But... the link posted has .xpi as an extension while your file is .jar
Until the link gets fixed users should copy and paste the following address to the address bar:
javascript:InstallTrigger.installChrome(InstallTrigger.SKIN, 'http://downloads.us-east3.mozdev.org/themes/themes/negmodern-1_3-20030322.jar', 'NegativeModern 1.3 M13:trunk:px')
The spaces in the address don't seem to be important.
Thank you again for saving this good looking skin. What a coincidence that I decided to say something the same day that you were fixing it!
:-D

Well, this theme works mostly with 1.7, except some icons that don't show up on Composer.
If it wasn't for this dumb page that doesn't let me install the theme, everything would be fine.
I say that this site should warn about incompatabilities but not stop people from actually using a product because of what thinks it's right or wrong. The whole free idea dies this way.

hehe, maybe it is not the page that is dumb after all...
I just realized that I can "Show all versions" and then proceed to install the theme.
The right one for 1.7 is the last one 2.2u.
It works fine as long as you don't select "Absolut positioning", "Send to back" and "Bring to font" buttons on Composer. Preferences/Composer/Toolbars/Show these buttons in the formating toolbar.
Another bug is that the buttons for Cut, Copy, Paste and Find don't have a little icon on them. But they still work as a button.
Well worth to put up with in order to use this nice theme.
Sorry, about my earlier words. It's past my bed time =)

Click on "show all versions", click on "install it" for the latest version which is meant for Mozilla 1.5.

I don't why some of you can't get this theme to work. I have just installed 1.8a2 and it works fine with it as well.
Have you guys tried deleting your old 'negative' themes and doing a clean install of the theme? Meaning, installing the 2.2u version without another version of the negative theme as one of the theme choices.
The main problem is what Dario pointed out about the space in between the back and forward arrows. Acctually the problem is that there is no down arrow to choose from the history of back and forward. Instead you need to right click the back and forward arrows to see th history. I got so used to it that I forgot that it was wrong.
Anyway, here is a way that it should work for everybody.
**************************************************
**************************************************
**************************************************Download the 'Theme Installer Add-On" from the top right of this page. Which is this link
Then download the theme from the show all versions link and choose the "File It!" link. Which is this oneand save the theme on your desktop or wherever.
Then go to the Edit/Preferences/Appearance/Themes and notice a new button that says "Install jar theme" on the bottom of the window. Click on it and point it to the saved theme.
Make sure you choose "apply the theme" from the View buttom and re-start your browser.
***************************************************
***************************************************
***************************************************If that doesn't work, then you may have some hidden setting that I don't know that is preventing it from working. Or I didn't write the instructions right. Or you didn't read/follow all the instructions.
In any case, I still like this theme after all these years(read above) and I wish the author or some other good-samaritan would update the theme. From what I see it's just some location adjusting that is needed. I just don't have the time to learn how to do this right now.

Awesome! I like it. Though w/1.7 there are no back and forward buttons (not the regular ones, those are there; the ones that let you go back several pages at one time). However, you can do like Chichizilla, and right-click them, or click the bottom right below them, where the buttons should be.

Hello, I am using Mozilla 1.8a2. I don't know if i should be posting here but my problem seems to be theme-specific. Here is my problem: Everytime I go to Google.com and search for something, the sidebar automatically opens. I cannot seem to stop it. I will close the sidebar, exit Mozilla, and restart it again to see if the change takes effect but it doesn't. I don't know what is wrong. Note that this happens only on the search results page of Google. Any information is greatly appreciated.

I just wanted to confirm that the 1.5 version does work with Netscape 7.2, except for the lack of multiple back and forward buttons and the more spaced out buttons (due to a shorter location bar) that other people have mentioned. Also, the Netscape N logo that you normally see in the upper right hand corner, and indicating the browser are changed to the Mozilla m logo.
For people having trouble installing (like it seems nothing happens), make sure you have enabled software installation under Edit | Preferences | Advanced | Software Installation (at least, this is an option under Netscape).

I don't know what to say. After I installed 1.8a2 the theme stopped working. I tried installing and got the error that some people are getting.
Around that time I started using Thunderbird, so I decide to go to Firefox as well and sorta of give up trying to get this theme to work.
Then today I had to use Mozilla because of some passwords I hadn't transfered and got annoyed by the colors and decided to try installing again.
Didn't even have to do the long way. I just tried installing and it took. When I restarted the browser I got an error message about xpcom_core.dll missing in the path. So I copied the file from a zipped(not exe) Firefox download that I had and placed it in the path. And the browser started fine.
BUT, then I noticed that the version I had just done that to was the 1.73(which used to work before) and not the newer 1.8a2. So I closed it down and started the 1.8a2. To my surprise this copy was now with the negative theme as well, all on its own.
So the only thing I can think of that could explain why some people get and some don't is related to older working copies.
For example, I've been using this theme for a long time, since when it was semi-supported and have kept it thru the new Mozilla versions. So maybe some info got carried along. OR, it cold be that I have more than one installation of Mozilla (three actually) and the newer Mozillas are using the information installed by the older Mozillas.
I don't if I'm making sense anymore, but the fact is that it works on my 1.8a2 now. And I don't think is luck. I'm not a lucky dog.
I don't even think it has anhything to do with the file that was missing from the path either. But who knows.
I bet there is only a few lines that need to edited to make it work for everybody.
Another shot in the dark would be to rename the negmodern-1_5-20030923.jar to modern.jar and replace the original modern.jar file in the chrome folder.
hope that helps

Im gona try a few things with this theme, but, with no offence to the creator of this theme, it seems there are going to be no more theme's, so why dont we embrace what opensource is all about and try to make this a more modern version? Im no programmer and have no idea how to build a theme, but i will try what Chichizilla has suggested to do and apply this modern over the existing modern. The only problem having a more modern browser, i cant download it, will someone send it to me at neilmunro@gmail.com?

Never mind trying the switch. It didn't work. I got a very funny looking browser with no images, just text.
But if you want to have the jar file, enable "show all versions" right under where it says that there are no versions for you.

I dont know, what you all are thinking, but if you happen to be running Mozilla 1.75 and what to install this theme, then click on Show All Versions, scroll, down to where you will see for 1.5, Click Install. Restart the browser. There works, perfectly. I am not using any theme addon installer, or any extentions for that sort. So if the method fails, that could be an issue. Thank, hopes this helps someone... :) enjoy!!!

HELL yeah ! I just installed this theme on Mozilla 1.7.5 and it works freaking great. Just like the last time I used it , which was like two years ago when I was still using version 1.1.
It's been some time but dammit man !! I got my most loved dark theme of all time back in action.
Thanks N'Jal with your techniques in comment 154 and thank you too Wasi with your techniques in comment 163.
By using both of your styles together, I got my baby back. I'm looking at her right now as write this.
Isn't she loooovely. Isn't she woooonderful. :-)THANK YOOOooooooooooooooooooooooouuuuu !!!!!

Dammit Man ! For you folks who like to use the Composer feature of Mozilla's browser to create/edit your own web pages are gonna find out quick that ALL IS NOT WELL when you trick Mozilla 1.7.5 into using this theme.
You'll see the moment you try to edit an HTML document in NORMAL, HTML TAGS, and PREVIEW mode. The icons are all F'd up in the right hand side of the screen. At least on mine.
SOURCE mode works like it should.
That fine by me because I understand Hyper Text Markup Langauge (HTML)and work with SOURCE code everyday.
This is not so fine for anyone that needs a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) type of HTML editor to create their web pages.
I can see the differance when I compare it to a theme that's approved for version 1.7.5, such as BlueZilla and MarsZilla.
There is a reason this web page hides this theme from sight and claims "There are no versions of this theme for your browser."
F*#K IT ! I'm still gonna use it. |:-)Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041217 - [169] Submitted by: clavicula on Friday 25th February 2005 at 21:12 -0500

Had to hack it to make it work in Moz 1.7.2. If you only use the browser (dont care about editor or chat or mail) and need some tips email me at she_died AT yahoo DOT com. If I have some time I can prepare a JAR file, but there's no guarantees folks.

dude, where's the mozilla 1.7 compatable version??!!!! i want this theme me`an!!! i've got a fetish for the color black. i love black clouths but strangely enough, black chicks were never my type *shrug* lol. every thing else has gotta be black or a flame lookish dark metalic blue; either way your theme is phat and i want it.... but alas, my broswer version and your exquisit theme do not love the cooperative mindedness of coexistince...... *looks around*.... uhhhhh yea... ok
