Excellent skin. Very unobtrusive and very functional. The 'textured' / 3D background is aesthetically pleasing.

A really great theme. Do the following: Go to the menu bar and open the _W_indow menu. There are five entries (this depeds on the installation type) and only the first three have small icons in front of them! Adress Book and Composer don't. Why this? There are nice icons for these two applications (always displayed on the lower left of each window!)

This is my absolutely favourite skin! :) Everything about it is perfect.. and the latest update has even made it better, especially on my laptop - I can quickly reduce the size of the bars when I need more space... But 1 question - I remember there being a way to run a "mini" version of this skin... but forget the specifics... anyone know how to do this? Thanks! :)

Love the skin - have used it since starting to use Mozilla (over a year now?).

Just tried to install "The Home Button" ( which is supposed to install a Home Button in the (main) Navigation toolbar.

It shows up - sort of. The upper right corner of the circle (icon) is visible most of the time, until your cursor hovers over it - then the whol thing shows up.

Could this be fixed? I might file a Bug, just to keep this around....

A very small, not-really-an-issue, but - I like the oval shaped URL entry area of the retro, but Love all of the other little icons for things like email & bookmarks.

Is there anyway I can d/l the diff. components & selectively install them so I can add the oval URL entry area fm Obrit3+1 Retro & keep everything else?

TIA,

I know it's already in a post, but I NEED!!! support for 1.5b. I've been waiting for a spellchecker for years in mozilla and I upgraded to mozilla 1.5b straight away, but no Orbit Skin!!!!
This is the best skin I've seen yet!!!
By the way the Firebird buttons and theme are excellent also!!!

Chris, please don't let us down... We need 1.5b support! I have installed 1.5b on my machine, but I decided to go back to 1.4 until Orbit is available. If you got used to Orbit once, you'll dislike everything else. :)

Yup... I was happy to see "mark as read by date" listed in the 1.5b release notes, but once I installed it, shock! horror! Orbit theme doesn't work. :( Needless to say, I went back to 1.4 instantly.

BTW: On some websites I have experienced that the navbar buttons got replaced by site elements (!), as far back as 1.2.1 but still in 1.4. I guess it has something to do with JS. I remember a Lycos image being stuck up there. Very strange.

First she doens`t like mozilla. Then she told me "she liked the mozilla I used", I installed the theme into his PC(windows), and after a few weeks I installed her a Mandrake 9.2 with mozilla 1.6.1 and your theme, and now she she uses Mandrake to work and navigate!!

Incredible, 10 points for you.

Okie, Jeff_Pony was the one who was doing the Orbit themes while he was in the Uni. But he has left the Uni and is now searching for the "nightmare of Life" (aka "a job") and so the themes, which have basically been left unattended while looking for work, *should* be taken over by a new theme authour hopefully in the near future and updated for current browsers.

Actually, while it IS just a bunch of .png files, the unfortunate thing here is that with each upgrade of FF/The Suite/T-Bird the developers are changing the *core* of the programme and a thing called "widgets" and the way they operate. I invite you to take a theme .jar file and unzip it sometime to look at *all* the .css that has to be drastically changed each time there is but a little core change - and then you'll see the difficulty in keeping these themes updated so often while FF/T-Bird especially are in beta format and therefore constantly evolving. :)

You are very welcomed to come and learn more about theming and keeping up-to-date on the theming news at: We would love to see all of you there!

So, would it be asking too much for the developers to either:

A) create a theme framework that would be updated with each change in the browser, into which any novice could put their desired bitmaps

or

B) a small utility to move the css to the new format?

An excellent theme! I've been using it since the first time I used Mozilla (v.1.3 I think) & I really love it...
Now I've switched to FireFox 1.0 cause I don't need the extra stuff that Mozilla suite offers but, indeed, FF seems incomplete without "Orbit".Lets not forget, however, that FF is considered the future of the Mozilla browser & most people that don't need an IRC client and development tools will switch to FF and ThunderBird at the end.

PLEASE,PLEASE UPDATE FOR FIREFOX !

Been using Mozilla Suite since 1.0 and Orbit since Moz 1.3, but switched to Firefox 1.0 for my default browser. (FINALLY, "open new window" links can open in a NEW tab, AUTOMATICALLY!, if you know the user.js line! Go to "Firefox Tips And Tricks" page) (and FoxyTunes, wow!) It looks like FF will replace the suite for the majority of users (and look at all the new-to-Mozilla FF users!), so a FF version of Orbit will be a MUST as time goes on!

MiK: I look forward to whatever you can do, but don't kill yourself getting it done -- real life always comes first.

I think it's the larger sized buttons and warm yellow coloration that makes your version so unique. Most other of the orbit/gnome variations I've seen so far are grey, blue, or green. Or 'rainbow bright'.

I'm working on a Firefox port myself now, based off of the Firefox Modern theme. It's coming along nicely - it already looks more Orbity than Orbit Yellow does. I expect to submit it to the Firefox themes site in about a week, and will also post a message here to announce it. It almost certainly will not be complete, and I will almost certainly get some things wrong, but it'll be worth every cent you pay for it! :)

In response to the issue submitted by Jorge...

There is a bug in the current 1.8 trunk - it was introduced in 1.8a6 and hasn't been fixed. Basically, it doesn't allow you to install themes unless they are XPI files.

There are two workarounds - change the extension of the theme from "jar" to "xpi". This doesn't always work as many of the themes distributed as "jar" files don't have what it takes to run as "xpi" files.

The best way is to install 1.8a5, install your theme/themes, uninstall 1.8a5 and then install the version you wish to use.

Also, if you go to and install the test version, it will work with 1.8b2 or any 1.8 trunk versions. I know as I installed it when I was trying out 1.8b1.

oops, I forgot that you can't post web links in the comments. If you go to the top of this page, you will see a link given under the Download/Install box. It says for unofficial 1.7 builds, but there is also a version for 1.8 builds, too.

Sorry for my mistake. I hope this clear things up.

One request from me, maybe you can do it: the both bookmark-icons, folder and page, look very similar to me. Could you please edit one of them, e.g with different colour (red or green maybe) so it's easier to see the difference between page-bookmarks and bookmark-folders?
