Using Moz1.5, installing from either this or www.cs.swt.edu/~as1130/themes/
Both give me the "made for an earlier version" warning and, of cours,e delelte themselves. It worked once, the first time I installed from the swt.edu site. After checking out another theme, and trying to switch back, I got the warning again, and haven't been able to get it back, since.
Any ideas?

Some postive feedback - every time I tab through my many open tabs I think to myself "wow, this theme looks cool". Perhaps because I am using an older binary version of Mozilla, but this theme adds substantial visual appeal over the default themes. The rounded buttons, faded out text on inactive tabs, curved URL bar... all in all a pleasing, professional looking theme.

I just tried a fresh profile with a freshly downloaded Mozilla 1.5 zip on Windows XP Pro, and the theme installed just fine, without errors for me. I'm using it right now in fact.@4
I just downloaded the Mozilla 1.6a zip and tried out the theme using it and I don't see the left side of the url bar out of alignment. Could you try another profile for me and let me know your results?@5
Glad to hear you like it :) That's always nice to hear . This is my 3rd theme (Rain (2nd) and Blue (1st) are my others). I really tried hard with this one so I can use it as a template in the future (by just changing icons when making a new theme).Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.6a) Gecko/20031030

You're right, aaron. Thanks. I've uninstalled Mozilla, and then I've installed again... and now Smoke works fine. I think that I know the problem: It doesn't work if you have installed the "home buttom". Have you think about to add this capability? (Sorry, I'm Spanish; I speak very little English).

Cool theme. Thanks. Just one minor bug/annoyance.
I'm using this in both Firebird(0.7) and Thunderbird(0.3) on XP. I have set my tooltip to white(ish) text on blue background. Smoke overrides the tooltip background to white, but not the font. So tooltips are whitish font on a white background (not readable).
It'd propably a good idea to have a fixed text-color for tooltips as well. (However, i haven't bothered to change either theme or my tooltip setting. Just a minor glitch...)

Very nice theme. One minor glitch: using Mozilla 1.5/Linux, setting the display resolution to 72 dpi (Preferences -> Appearance -> Fonts), the left part of the URL bar is slightly misplaced to the bottom (where the favicon is contained). 96 dpi works fine.

I've been using smoke since it first appeared on the theme's page, however, this morning I came across a strange problem. it seems that randomly after closing firebird .7, the back, forward, and stop buttons disapear (from both the navigation toolbar and the customize window). The only way to get them to re-appear is to load the default firebird theme, close the browser, reopen it and reload smoke. this started happening after I reinstalled firebird, and downloaded the 12/4 version of smoke. any Idea's? (no extensions installed, only the smoke and default theme's installed.)

Excellent! I've been waiting for another theme to use the system color scheme correctly ever since the author of Hybrid disappeared. Just a couple nits:
1) If you click the Stop button after a page has loaded, it lights up.
2) A more visibile indicator for the active tab would be nice. I've got the tabbrowser extentions installed, and they override the tab text color so all I have to indicate that the tab is active is the 1px blue border. Maybe highlight the bookmark icon, or raise the active tab a couple pixels or something?jomustaj: It doesn't seem to override the tooltip color on Windows.

One prob: I got a 515029 byte smoke_15.jar on the 11th of Dec. (0900 EST I believe) that worked perfectly on ofc. workstation, so I went to install it on workstation at home later that day. It'd apparently since been replaced with a 515209 byte file (12/11 1800 EST) that's a bit assed up, which is being served up right now (). (Fortunately, copying the jar from ofc. workstation this AM did the trick.)

No scrollbars whatsoever (window, select boxes, frames, anything) combined with missing back and forward buttons (the fix for this is to restore the default theme, then back to smoke, but they get lost again if you restart firebird).
Beautiful clean theme tho. Hope the bugs can be fixed so I don't have to use keyboard shortcuts for everything :-)

Sorry, Aaron, but the theme is still broken on OSX for me. I've tried the MacOS build on your site labeled for Mozilla 1.5 under 1.5, 1.5.1 and 1.6beta, no scrollbars in any of them. I'm running under MacOS 10.3.2 (Panther). I have none of your theme's chrome options set. I tried putting the native tabs chrome option in place to see if that would fix it, I got the native tabs but still no scrollbars.
I'd like to switch to your theme, so let me know if there's anything else I can try.

Jim:
I talked with someone via email that has your same problem. I don't have access to a Mac so I have to do all this from other people's testing. Turns out that person was able to get the Rain theme working on Mac as far as scrollbars go. So I'm just going to update the theme with the scrollbars code from there. I'll make an update soon.Josh:
I have heard of a couple of people experiencing this but have not been able to reporduce it myself. Until I can reproduce it, my only suggestion is to use the "Squared" subskin that gives the standard url box in the classic theme. Please see my website for instructions on using this subskin. www.mozthemes.tkMozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.5) Gecko/20031007

Very good-looking theme, Aaron! I noticed an issue straight away though as I use Mozilla Mail a lot: the message icons (shown in front of the subject column in the message list) are missing. I can see the read/unread status from the subject line's font weight (unread=bold) but the lack of icons conceals such things as messages marked for deletion in IMAP boxes... Or ones having attachments included.

I love this theme. It is my favorite so far of all the Mozilla themes I have used. It's looks like something that belongs in a professional environment compared to a lot of the "toyish" things that are out there and seem to be all the rage. It even has a good feel. If you did a similiar theme I would like to see one called, "soot" theat would be a very dark gray almost black and have the buttons and text be white. I've been looking for something out there similiar to the way MSN had that black hollywood theme for their online service. That was a couple of version before the butterfly junk. No I don't use MSN, I did try it for a month free back around 1997 or so when they had that hollywoodish theme. These closest theme I have found is the LCARS star trek looking theme with the over use of the ugly colors is a turn off and distracting. But I do love the smoke theme! yeah!

Thanks very much Aaron, great theme. Very Nice. I've got only one point. Since I'm using Mail very much and I have some mail accounts it would be very useful, if there was an icon indicating new mail in front of the account node. In the current version there seems to be no account icon at all. Even the subskin setting just switches the behavior inside the account folder. The default skin displays a green arrow when any unread mail is contained.
This feature would make your skin perfect.Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; de-AT; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040113 MultiZilla/1.6.0.0e

Unfortunately, it seems to be striken by the same unseen-scrollbar bug that several of the other themes have. The scrollbar is there, and it works perfectly fine. You just can't see it. Present both on websites large enough to have scroll down through and in the appearance -> themes preferences window.

Aetnaria, the link on this site does not work on Mac platforms. It gives the scrollbar bug as you noted. There is one file in the theme structure that works fine on all other operating systems except Mac, and it requires a slight modification to work on a Mac. The Mac version is on my website (www.mozthemes.tk).
This is to All:

I quite like smoke, especially that it conserves vertical space better than the standard Modern theme. One Modern feature I miss, though, is that the tabs are shaded so you can easily see which one you're on. Modern also does tab text color hinting. It's very useful to have the tab text color depend upon whether or not the tab is loading, has been visted, or is loaded but not yet visited.
It would be great if these things were added to smoke.

Aaron,
I just wanted to mention that I was having the same problem mentioned by some other people. The left end of the url box was misaligned. I think I found the cause.
leftcap.png is two pixels shorter than rightcap.png. If the canvas size of leftcap.png is increased by two pixels (without resizing the image), the problem goes away.

This is a great looking theme, my most favorite, but I've got the 'misaligned url box' problem, which makes it look cheap, and it's driving me crazy (admittedly short drive). I'm apparently too dense to figure out how/where to apply the fix as posted by Jonathan, (I've futzed with a bunch of different Mozilla related files looking for references to canvas size with no luck) so I'm hoping another clue could be posted here?
Gnashing teeth in anticipation,Thanks.

Bonehead, (Starting a post with this feels odd for some strange reason...)
Here is how to fix the file leftcap.png:
1. mkdir /tmp/smoke
2. cd /tmp/smoke
3. cp {insert path to jar file} ./
4. cat Canvas Size.
8. In the Set Canvas Size window, unlink the X to Y ratio.
9. Set New Height to 24.
10. Save leftcap.png. (If gimp says something about exporting the file, say yes/ok/etc.)
11. jar uf smoke_15.jar navigator/icons/leftcap.png
12. If smoke theme is already installed, replace the existing jar file with your modified copy, otherwise install the modified jar file.If I remember correctly, that should be the only thing that you need to change.

btw: this themesite states that smoke also skins the calendar - but it doesnt do here :/

In regards to the left part of the address bar being off, you asked why it was happening to some people. Playing around with it here, I noticed that I could get it to come and go by playing with the screen resolution setting (browser.display.screen_resolution) in about:config. When I set it to a resolution of 96, 100, 106, etc., I see the pixel shift. Set it to 110 and it goes away (although it does make fonts a bit small). I haven't dropped down in resolution in the tests, but I'd guess that with Mozilla automatically setting the resolution setting from the system, you might see this kind of variance. BTW, I'm not sure if you've addressed any of this -- I'm using a version that I got a while ago. Great theme!

Take that back...I get good alignment on the address bar pixel thingy when I set the browser.display.screen_resolution to anything from 84 to 86, 94 to 98, or 108 to 114 pixels per inch.

Great theme, i use it in the Mozilla Browser and Thunderbird. But the problem with Thunderbird is, that i can't recognize that an email has been marked as deleted, because there's no email icon in front of the subject. With the standard theme, the email icon changes when an email is marked as deleted. Would be nice, if this could be addressed. I'm using Thunderbird 0.5 atm.

Ashan, in Firefox, are you using the "Small icons" option? If so, then you will have 24x24 pixel icons, but the large icons are 32x32 pixels -- exactly what the Mozilla version has. To change to large icons, right-click on the toolbar and select customize. Then in the lower-left corner, make sure that the checkbox that says "Use Samll Icons" is not checked. That should fix it for you.

For some reason, the latest theme (03.15.04) is displaying what appears to be the Apollo icons for the "new tab" and "close" icons on my tabbar and sidebar (instead of the Smoke icons).
Any solutions?
BTW, this is a clean install of Mozilla 1.6 that I'm experiencing this problem with.
Thanks.

One question however: how about creating a version with grafics-only buttons (so no text below it). It would allow for smaller toolbars.

If I were forced to gripe about this skin, the only gripe I'd have would be the fact that the grey background colour of the throbber doesn't _quite_ match the bluer colour of the surrounding chrome - probably unavoidable given the gradient that's used. I get the feeling that that this may be yet more grounds for restoring MNG support in Mozilla builds....

Hayley, you are correct -- It is because MNG support was removed. I might consider adding a theme option that has a MNG throbber for those who want to use it, and provide a link to the MNG plug-in at my website (www.mozthemes.tk)....

Hayley, I tried to add the MNG throbber and use the plug-in, but either my MNG creation software or the plug-in are flawed. Because the image really displays strangely. I'm afraid I might not be able to offer the MNG version of the throbber....

An excellent, clean-looking theme, which so far is running great on Mozilla 1.8a (Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8a) Gecko/20040428) on my Windows XP workstation.
I do note one anomaly, though: The "Find Text" field in the Mozilla "Find in this Page" dialog looks like it has more heavy indenting at the top and bottom of the field than other text fields (compare the Find dialog to the fields in the Preferences dialog, for example). Just something you might want to check on.
Again, a very clean, handsome, business-like interface. "Smoke" and "Modern" should be the default themes offered in future Mozilla releases, imho. Nice work!

In the newsreader I don't get the envelope icons next to messages if a message is signed a 'read'.
When I sign a messages as unread the icon the read/unread icon disapears, but then the envelope icon appears next tot the subject. Also the thread icons look like they are from the classic theme.
Other thing I noticed: almost all browser navigation related shapes have round edges, except the tabs in the browser, now they look like window buttons instead of navigation buttons. Feels inconsistent.

I am also having that left side of the address field misalignment error. it's a bit lower. Using it on mozilla 1.7.1. Other wise very cool theme and fast too, unlike other slow-but-good-looking themes.

I use this theme but recently the page was deleted, I put one alternate location for smoke_15.jar in my web, you can use theme installer Add-On on this page.

A quick search of the web found the author's site, where you can download the theme:
> Themes > Smoke > Installation > {browser of your choice}Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040616 - [183] Submitted by: Peter Mularien on Friday 16th July 2004 at 08:25 -0400
